Developing a Brochure
Knowing how to develop a brochure is a great assist any person can have, especially those that are associated in a business that requires brochures on a regular basis. There are five very useful steps to get you through the whole process of developing a brochure and we are going to take you through each of those steps.
It can be very effective to develop a brochure knowing the information and layout right away. You will want to go ahead and gather all the materials you will need before you begin the process of developing a brochure. If you haven’t created a brochure before it might be a good idea to take a look at someone else’s to put some ideas in your head as to what you could do with your own.
Lets get into the actual step process for developing a great brochure.
Step One
During step one you will want to create an outline for your brochure. With an outline it will assist you in organizing the information you are going to utilize. With the outline you can indicate the location for photos or images that you may need to help enforce your message with your brochure.
Step Two
Deciding what format that you will be using is step two. At this point you will or should know what you are going to include into your brochure that can give you an estimation of how big your brochure will need to be. There are several different brochure types that you can choose to utilize:
• Mini brochure (postcard/bookmark)
• Trifold (folded sheet)
• Bound booklet
• Loose sheets
When you select the size of your brochure you may want to take into account that the brochure should be able to fit into a file folder. If it does not clients may decide to throw it away because they have no ideal location that they can store it.
Step Three
During step three you will begin setting up the pages. You will want to arrange your content on the pages/panels for the amount of text that you are using. It is important to place the main information on the front and then use the rest of the content throughout the rest of the brochure.
Step Four
Filling in the blanks is what you will be doing during step four. You will be doing a lot of editing and determine what the most relevant information is. Having your content divided into short paragraphs, or chunks of information is more appealing then larger amounts of text, so consider using bulleted lists and headings throughout the entire brochure. A brochure isn’t supposed to look like a book, it’s supposed to get right to the point and inform the clients quickly.
Step Five
The final step is step five. During this stage you will be doing all the final touches for your entire brochure. You will be placing images, charts, and graphics onto the pages. This stage is where you will want to make your brochure unique, which could involve using various text styles, but try avoiding using more then three, placing interesting images, and making the entire brochure eye catching.
The development of a brochure is not as complicated as many make it seem. Once you know everything you want to include into the brochure and how you’d like it to look you’ll be on your way to creating a successful brochure. Just remember, a brochure is not a book, it is quick but useful information that will satisfy all your clients’ needs faster then a book ever will.
